Fixed & Removable Prosthodontics

Prosthodontics is the branch of dentistry that focuses on the replacement and restoration of missing or damaged teeth to improve function, comfort, and aesthetics. It is mainly divided into fixed prosthodontics and removable prosthodontics.

Fixed Prosthodontics

Fixed Prosthodontics involves permanent restorations that are cemented or anchored onto natural teeth or implants and cannot be removed by the patient. Common treatments include crowns, bridges, veneers, and implant-supported prostheses. These options offer durability, stability, and a natural look, restoring chewing efficiency, speech, and overall dental health.

Removable Prosthodontics

Removable Prosthodontics refers to dental appliances that can be taken out of the mouth by the patient for cleaning and maintenance. Examples include complete dentures, partial dentures, overdentures, and implant-supported removable dentures. They are generally more affordable, non-invasive, and can be adjusted or replaced when needed, though they may not feel as stable as fixed options.

Both forms of prosthodontics play an essential role in restoring oral function, preventing further dental issues, and enhancing facial appearance and confidence. The choice between fixed and removable options depends on factors such as oral condition, bone support, patient preference, and budget.
